Our garden has definitely slowed down in the heat of the summer. We are working on filling in some space from pulling our zucchini and squash with beans. We are so thankful for volunteer willing to help out in the heat.

We are also dealing with some pests in our sweet potatoes and needing to fix some irrigation. Always a lot to do in the garden…

This is the last of the tomatoes, squash and zuchinni. I still have some okra and a little cucumbers to go. Im excited this week to dig up my first sweet potatoes! Next time i have to figure out how to keep the potato vines from taking over my garden. Any suggestions?

Look at the dahlia with a heart in it. Dropped off 4 crates today at Shawnee Community Servies and picked up 4 more empty crates. I wrote the vegetable on some paper labels we printed. I’m going to copy them and then tape it onto the crates each time. It’s working pretty good!

Biggest harvest yet. We planted some seeds for green beans so you can see them sprouting too. Trying succession garden cause our kale gets eaten by worms that are gross.

I just had an amazing harvest! I harvested a bunch of cucumbers, which weighed in alone at 3 pounds and 2 ounces! The garden is absolutely doing amazing, however the inchworm attack is not. They have taken control of the kale and broccoli, and no brassica is safe from them! I am no longer able to harvest greens, as they now have taken control!…

We got our first zucchinis and we dug some of the potatoes that died after the hailstorm. Luckily most of the plants survived so hopefully we still get lots of good harvests this year. We donated this to the food bank and she was very appreciative!

We get so much food from my garden every day. so grateful that God has blessed us with so much food. And so glad its a giving garden because i get to share it with people who dont have as much food as me!! Our winter squash beds have a lot of volunteer pigweed/amaranth/callaloo in the garden. Instead of just weeding it all, we harvested and donared 13lbs of the larger leaves since it is a cultivated crop in many cultures.

The extreme heat is slowing our harvest and we are saying goodbye to so many tomato plants. Before we say goodbye, we are taking a few cuttings from healthy tomato plants to try to root them for a second planting. I will let you know if it works!

We had our best week in the gardens! So thankful to incredible teachers and student and family volunteers who are willing to help out over the summer to keep our gardens thriving! The zucchini are coming!! We had 10lbs thanks to some donations from our community gardeners as well. Still snow peas and some of our beets were ready. We donated some lettuce and herbs from our school garden as well.
